Foreign Minister meets with Chinese ambassador in Tunis

The progress of ongoing projects in Tunisia through a Chinese funding and ways to boost Tunisian-Chinese cooperation in all fields were discussed at a meeting held Thursday between Foreign Affairs Minister Noureddine Erray and China’s ambassador in Tunis Wang Wenbin.

The minister expressed Tunisia’s determination to develop cooperation with China, particularly in the fields of economy, technology and culture.

This cooperation should be consolidated both bilaterally and within the framework of regional forums, such as the Tunisian-Chinese Cooperation Forum, the Afro-Chinese Cooperation Forum, the "Belt and Road" Initiative joined by Tunisia in 2018.

Erray expressed Tunisia’s solidarity with the Chinese people in their efforts to halt the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), praising the Chinese government’s efforts to contain the pandemic.

“Tunisia is seeking to bolster cooperation with China in terms of sharing expertise and consolidating coordination between competent authorities from both countries, as part of international efforts to contain COVID-19,” he pointed out.

The Chinese ambassador stressed his country’s willingness to continue boosting cooperation with Tunisia in all fields, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture and tourism.

“China is ready to support Tunisia’s efforts to meet its economic and development challenges as well as encourage Chinese companies increase investments in Tunisia and diversify them,” the ambassador said.

The two officials stressed the need to continue bilateral coordination and consultation regarding regional and international issues to be addressed in the agenda of the UN Security Council, especially as China is chairing the Security Council in March.
