Tunisia has made significant progress in combating terrorism FM says as he meets UN’s Voronkov

Tunisia has made significant progress in combating terrorism and intends to continue its efforts, particularly preventive action and to participate actively in relevant international and regional events, Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui said at a meeting Friday in New York

with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov

Jhinaoui said during its term in the Security Council, Tunisia would attach great importance to this issue, calling for an intensification of cooperation and consultations with the UN agencies in the fight against terrorism, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Saturday.

For his part, Voronkov congratulated Tunisia on its election to the Security Council for the period 2020-2021 and reaffirmed his willingness to strengthen joint cooperation in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also met with the Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) Michèle Coninsx.

He recalled that Tunisia would put the fight against terrorism at the top of its priorities during its term as non-permanent members of the Security Council and emphasised the importance of fostering cooperation with the Executive Directorate.
