Foreign Minister receives phone call from his US counterpart
The issues on the agenda of the Security Council in the next stage and Tunisia's accession to the Council as non-permanent member in the term 2020-2021 were discussed at the phone talk,
The two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen consultation and coordination on several regional and international issues of common interest
They also reviewed the UN and international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people which has increased amid the coronavirus pandemic, through speeding up the reopening of corridors allowing the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid.
The meeting was also an opportunity "to affirm the convergence of views of both countries and their positions on the imperative to support the peaceful political process in Libya and the efforts of the Government of National Unity to ensure the stability of the country and the entire region.
On the bilateral level, Othman Jerandi welcomed the U.S. administration's support to Tunisia in this difficult situation marked by the spread of the COVID-19, by confirming granting of 500,000 vaccines.
In addition, Jerandi invited his US counterpart to visit Tunisia to "boost the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Blinken, on his part, expressed his country's willingness to continue supporting Tunisia to stem the spread of the coronavirus and back development efforts.
He also stressed the U.S. administration's support for the political transition process in Tunisia
