FOCAC: MFA meets with chinese counterpart.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othmane Jerandi conferred Monday in Dakar with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

Mr.Jerandi took part in the opening of the 8th ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Dakar on November 23-30, with the participation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Economic Cooperation of China and African countries.

The two ministers reviewed the main issues of joint interest and the prospects for Tunisian-Chinese cooperation and the consolidation of the China-Africa partnership with a view to fostering development on the Continent.

Mr.Jerandi expressed on this occasion, Tunisia's gratefulness to China for its support in combating the coronavirus pandemic, reaffirming the importance of cementing bilateral cooperation in the medical field, notably in scientific research, vaccination and medicines.

He also called for broadening the scope of cooperation to vital and innovative sectors to achieve sustainable development, highlighting the role of bilateral cooperation mechanisms and the follow-up of bilateral projects under way.

He further underlined the importance of FOCAC as a framework for South-South cooperation that can enhance Africa's ability to play a greater role on the global scene.

The Chinese Foreign Minister reaffirmed for his part, his country's willingness to support Africa in all fields and build a real partnership with the Continent.

At the bilateral level, he expressed Beijing's willingness to provide Tunisia with the necessary support in combating the pandemic, particularly with regard to vaccines, and to step up cooperation in all fields, including in particular scientific research, medicine and pharmacy.
