Tunisia urges adoption of new working mechanisms to improve joint Arab action

Tunisia called at the periodic meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States in Cairo Wednesday for further promoting Arab development action, bolstering cooperation and working to smooth out the difficulties in developing the economies of countries in the region.

In his remarks at the opening of the 155th ordinary session of the Council of the League, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi emphasised the importance of reforming this institution and adopting new working mechanisms to improve the joint Arab action framework and ensure its openness to its environment.

Jerandi stressed the Arab dimension in the constants of the foreign policy of Tunisia which, he said, continues to preside over the 30th Arab Summit "in a spirit of responsibility and while being aware of the major challenges facing the region,"

Faced with these challenges, it will be necessary to uphold effective solidarity to regain the lead in addressing the threats facing the region, he added.

Tunisia will spare no effort to defend the just Arab causes in all regional and international forums, in coordination with Arab countries and to mobilise international support in order to strengthen security and stability in the region against violence, extremism and terrorism, he pointed out.

On another level, Jerandi expressed Tunisia's satisfaction with the progress made in the implementation of the roadmap resulting from the Libyan political dialogue whose first rounds took place in November 2020 in Tunis.

He also reiterated Tunisia's firm and constant support to the Palestinian cause until the Palestinian people can recover their legitimate rights and create an independent state with Eastern Al-Quds as its capital.

Jerandi had, on the sidelines of the 155th session of the Council of the League of Arab States, several talks with his Arab counterparts on bilateral issues.
