MFA proposes creating team of experts on counter-terrorism within AU

Speaking on Friday at a meeting organised on the sidelines of the AU Ministerial Conference in Oran, Algeria (2-4 December) on "peace and security in Africa", Mr.Jerandi called for the establishment of a programme to strengthen "cyber security" to counter the use of new technologies by terrorist groups.
In the same context, the minister reiterated Tunisia's commitment to the right of peoples to protect themselves against the crime of terrorism, which, he said, represents a threat to security, peace and stability in Africa.
For the Minister, the continuous activity of terrorist groups and their ability to use modern technologies, in addition to the risks that may result from their return to their countries of origin, require the implementation of multidimensional national strategies based on prevention and fight.
On this occasion, the Minister commended the efforts made in the framework of the fight against terrorism, recalling Tunisia's interest in the activation of the decision of the African Heads of State concerning the creation of a special fund for the prevention and fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
