Meeting of the Foreign Minister with the head of the United Nations Mission about the situation in Libya

The situation in Libya and efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement are at the center of the meeting held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 between Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Chief of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Ghassan Salame.


The Foreign Minister welcomed the efforts of the UN envoy to consolidate the ceasefire agreement in the capital Tripoli.

 He also reiterated Tunisia's support for his continued efforts to reach a comprehensive political agreement in this brother country, according to the UN roadmap.

He also expressed the hope that this conference would be a qualitative leap in the political process and succeed in pushing Libyans to overcome their differences and move towards a peaceful solution to the crisis in their country.

For his part, the UN envoy informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the content of his briefing to the Security Council on Thursday the situation in Libya. He stressed in this context that the decision to overcome the phase of chaos and to build a legitimate State with unified institutions remains in the hands of the Libyans themselves and that no force can force them to do so or to replace them in a large number of initiatives.

He also expressed the hope that the Palermo conference would be a milestone in the conclusion of an inter-Libyan agreement, stressing that the UN mission continued to strengthen the security arrangements in Tripoli and implement the reforms. economic requirements.

The UN official also reiterated his appreciation of the important role played by Tunisia alongside the Libyan people.
