Foreign Minister holds talks with Egyptian counterpart in Cairo
The two ministers stressed the importance of developing the different aspects of co-operation between the two countries and preparing for the 17th session of the Tunisian-Egyptian High Joint Commission that will be hosted by Tunisia in the first quarter of 2019 and the next meeting of the political consultation committee at the level of foreign ministers.
Mr Khemaies Jhinaoui and his Egyptian counterpart also discussed regional and international issues of common interest, including the ongoing political process in Libya.
In this context, they agreed on the need to set a date for the next meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the three main neighboring countries, Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria, in order to enhance the dialogue and coordination of efforts to achieve a comprehensive political settlement to restore security and stability in this country.
Mr Jhinaoui also held a working session with Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during which they reviewed the preparations for the 30th Ordinary Session of the Arab Summit in March 2019.They also reviewed the progress of co-ordination between Tunisia and the Arab League ahead of this summit, especially after the visit of a delegation of the General Secretariat of the League to Tunisia in December 2018.
Mr Jhinaoui affirmed Tunisia's determination to ensure the success of this key Arab event, to boost joint Arab action and to strengthen the role of Arab countries in dealing with Arab issues, especially at this current stage in the region.
For his part, the secretary-general of the Arab League stressed the full readiness to strengthen co-operation and coordination with Tunisia at all stages of the preparation and organisation of the Arab summit.
Jhinaoui, in his capacity as special envoy of President Beji Caïd Essebsi paid a visit in Cairo on January 4 and 5.
He delivered a written message from the President of the Republic to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, inviting him to attend the 30th Ordinary Session of the Arab Summit scheduled for March 31, 2019 in Tunis.
