During the meeting, attended by State Secretaries of Foreign Affairs Sabri Bachtobji and Economic Diplomacy Hatem Ferjani, the Minister stressed the willingness of Tunisia to put its expertise and experience to the availability of the countries of the Group in equal partnership in priority areas such as agriculture, industry, communication technologies, education, training and health.
He also stressed the need to support the air and sea link between Tunisia and the group countries in order to strengthen trade and investment in light of the significant potential available in this area and to support communication between private sector representatives. of both parties.
For his part, the president of ECOWAS stressed that his visit to Tunisia was part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation relations, especially after Tunisia obtained observer status with the group and discussed ways to expand its areas, particularly in the area of trade, while recalling the creation of a technical expert committee to discuss the possibilities of cooperation available and the signing of the memorandum of understanding and to outline the main lines of bilateral cooperation .
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a group of 15 nations, is a free trade area with more than $ 630 billion in economic and demographic importance for gross domestic product and more 350 million inhabitants (2015 statistics).
