Our MFA receives Rachid Meredov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan
This is the first visit of a foreign minister of Turkmenistan to Tunisia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in November 1992.
The Minister stressed that this historic visit has established a mechanism to stimulate policy dialogue and a legal framework to govern relations between the two countries.
Mr Jhinaoui also said that the visit helped to establish relations between the two sister countries and identify opportunities for cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, energy and tourism.
Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister, following his meeting with Mr Jhinaoui, stressed his country's willingness to step up bilateral consultations to boost cooperation, saying it was essential to conclude as soon as possible agreements on trade, economics, scientific research, tourism and education.
Two memorandums of understanding were signed on this occasion between Tunisia and Turkmenistan in the political and diplomatic fields.
The first memorandum concerns consultations at the level of the foreign affairs ministries of the two countries.
The second concerns a cooperation between the Diplomatic Institute for Training and Education (IDFE) and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
