Tunisia elected as non-permanent member of Security Council with 191 votes
Tunisia is elected to this position for the fourth time. The previous terms during which Tunisia had held the position of non-permanent member are as follows: (1959-1960), (1980-1981), (2000-2001)
This election reflects the respect enjoyed by Tunisia on the strong international scene for its foreign policy and its ability to meet the challenges and strengthen peace and security in the world, according to a statement of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Tunisia is the only candidate for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council in the North African region for the period 2020-2021.
Six countries, including Tunisia, have submitted their candidacies to occupy 5 non-permanent seats for the period 2020-2021.
