Jerandi reiterates Tunisia's commitment to defend fundamental rights and freedoms
In his speech, Jerandi called for the need to promote investment and economic partnership to support the success of the democratic experience in Tunisia
He recalled the initiative of the President of the Republic relating to the organisation of global solidarity in the face of the pandemic of COVID-19. The United Nations Security Council had adopted resolution 2532 (2020) which calls for a cessation of hostilities in various conflicts around the world to facilitate the fight against the pandemic COVID-19.
The meeting ended with the adoption of a joint declaration proclaiming the official launch of the activities of the "Friends in Defense of Democracy".
The meeting was attended by Foreign Ministers and their representatives from Sweden, Georgia, Portugal, Mongolia, Liberia and Uruguay.
The Friends in Defense of Democracy initiative is part of the Swedish foreign policy to create a network of countries with converging views on democracy and human rights.
Tunisia was chosen to participate in this meeting, given its ongoing commitment to democracy and the strengthening of its institutions. The meeting discussed, in particular, ways to further support joint action to protect democracy, its principles, institutions and defenders,
