EU ready to continue to support Tunisia (Marcus Cornaro)

New European Union ambassador to Tunisia, Marcus Cornaro, stressed the Union's firm commitment to continue to support Tunisia in the face of security and socio-economic challenges.

The European official was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr thaman Jerandi, during which he handed him a copy of his credentials.

the two sides discussed regional and international issues of common interest such as the Libyan file and preparations for the first meeting of the inter-Libyan political dialogue, scheduled to take place in Tunisia in early November.

On this occasion, Mr Othman Jerandi reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to strengthening the "strategic" partnership with the European Union, welcoming the Union's support during the Coronavirus health crisis.

He also expressed to the new ambassador, the readiness of his department to ensure all the necessary conditions so that he can fully exercise his duties.

Marcus Cornaro, an Austrian national, is the new ambassador of the European Union to Tunisia. He replaces Patrice Bergamini who has held this position since September 2016.
