Tunisia "firmly" condemns Nice attack

- Tunisia on Thursday 29/10/2020 "strongly" condemned the knife attack that killed at least three people in Nice, south-eastern France, describing it as a "terrorist" act.

Tunisia said it rejected all forms of terrorism and extremism, warning against any political or ideological instrumentation of the "sanctity" and linking it to terrorism.

It emphasised the need to combine international efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism which, it said, threaten peace and stability in the world.

Besides, Tunisia called for religion to be excluded from the scourge of terrorism as it is a cross-border phenomenon,

Earlier in the day, the Public Prosecutor's office at the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Division said it had initiated an investigation against anyone involved in a murder or terrorist crimes, following Thursday's knife attack in Nice, France whose assailant was a Tunisian citizen.

Three people were killed, including at least one virtually beheaded, during a knife attack inside the Notre Dame Basilica in Nice Thursday. The perpetrator was arrested.
