M.Othman Jerandi takes part in virtual high-level conference on reinforcing multilateralism
Spain's Prime Minister Sánchez of Spain, together with Prime Minister Stefan Löfvén of Sweden, convened this high-level meeting as an initiative, with countries from various regions; it was attended by the heads of state and government of Jordan, Senegal, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Canada, South Korea, Costa Rica, Sweden and New Zealand.
The meeting aims is to strengthen the implementation of the 12 key commitments contained in the United Nations 75th Anniversary Declaration that was adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 21, 2020.
Tunisia has committed to this initiative since its launch in October 2020,
In a speech delivered on behalf of the President of the Republic, Jerandi stressed the importance of cooperation, unity and mutual assistance among States and peoples, citing Security Council Resolution 2532 presented by Tunisia and France.
The resolution calls for a general and immediate cessation of hostilities in all conflict situations in order to address the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the declaration adopted on Tuesday, representatives of countries committed to this initiative pledged to continue supporting the UN, reduce inequalities, improve the global health system, preserve the environment and achieve peace and justice.
They also pledged to uphold the rule of law and human rights, reduce the digital divide and achieve sustainable financing.
