The European Union (EU) is ready to strengthen its cooperation with Tunisia on both economic and logistical levels, said Thursday, EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi.

In a telephone conversation on Thursday with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi, the European official welcomed the "accelerated" pace of national consultations on financial planning and the strategic priorities of the partnership for the period 2021-2027.

the Commissioner voiced hope that these consultations will lay the foundations for a solid partnership between the European Union and Tunisia in order to boost cooperation after the COVID-19.

The official also commended the "excellent" level reached by bilateral cooperation, expressing readiness to make a visit to Tunisia to meet all the conditions for success in the next bilateral events.

For his part, the Foreign Affairs Minister welcomed the support provided by the European Union to Tunisia, particularly during the first wave of coronavirus, referring, in this regard, to the UN Covax initiative which should allow access and equitable distribution of vaccines.

"Relations between Tunisia and the European Union should further develop within the framework of a new approach that takes into account the new challenges and expectations of future generations," he said.

Tunisia began national consultations on financial planning and strategic partnership priorities for the period 2021-2027.
