M. Jerandi calls for global solidarity to overcome COVID-19 pandemic

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi underlined the need for multi-stakeholder cooperation and international solidarity to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic in a comprehensive and sustainable way.

The current health crisis has shown the failure of individual countries to combat the Coronavirus, he pointed out during a United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2021) held Friday in New York.

He laid emphasis on the Council's role in reinvigorating multi-stakeholder cooperation that could help developing countries address the challenges they face.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires that international solidarity be converted into concrete and effective actions that meet the needs of developing countries, Jerandi considered.

The FM underlined the need for fair distribution of Coronavirus vaccines and for helping countries reduce their debt burden in order to mitigate the health, economic and social impact of the pandemic.
