Visit, the delegation headed by Mr. Damien Moore MP, Chairman of the APPG

A Cross-Party delegation composed of 4 MPs representing the All-Party Parliamentary Group "APPG on Tunisia" paid a visit to Tunisia from 6-9 November 2018.

During this visit, the delegation headed by Mr. Damien Moore MP, Chairman of the APPG, held a series of meetings with Tunisian high officials including Mr Mohamed Ennaceur, President of the Assembly of Representatives of the People, Mr Khemaies Jhinaoui, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr Slim Feriani, Minister of Industry and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

The group of MPs were also received at the Ministry of Interior and had meetings with the members of the Tunisia–UK Parliamentary Friendship Group as well as the Board of the Tunisian British Chamber of Commerce.

The visit provided the opportunity for the British Parliamentarians to get a better understanding of the situation in Tunisia and the challenges it faces as a young democracy on the security, political and socio-economic levels. Their discussions with various political and business stakeholders in Tunisia focused on various issues of common interest and explored ways to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and the support of the UK to Tunisia's democratic transition.

According to its mission statement, the APPG on Tunisia aims at building and fostering relations between Tunisia and the United Kingdom. The Group held its inaugural meeting in February 2018 during which a number of officers have been elected. Mr. Damien Moore, MP chairs the bureau which comprises of an honorary President, 6 vice-chairs, and a Secretary. Over 50 members of both Houses of Parliament have joined the Group since its constitution.
