Mr. Rene Trabelsi, Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, paid a working visit to London
the two largest Tour Operators selling package holidays to Tunisia, as well as the Chief Executive of the "Association of British Travel Agents-ABTA", Mr. Mark Tanzer.
The discussions highlighted the increasing demand for Tunisia from British holidaymakers, taking into account the improvement of the security conditions in the country, and the excellent prospects for this summer season which could see a doubling in the number of British tourists to reach 250.000 this year.
Minister Trabelsi insisted on promoting the popular Tunisian destination beyond the summer season and the traditional seaside holidays by taking advantage of the richness of Tunisia and the variety of activities it offers to holidaymakers.
He suggested to work on a 3-year Strategic Plan with commitments from all stakeholders in order to ensure a substantial increase in the number of British holidaymakers visiting Tunisia and to contribute to raising the standards of Tunisian hotels through staff training and quality management.
He also proposed to ABTA to hold its annual conference in Tunisia which could see the participation of 500 delegates.
