Jerandi receives UK ambassador in Tunis

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Othman Jerandi, had a meeting on Thursday with UK Ambassador in Tunis, Louise De Sousa, who paid him a courtesy visit at the end of her mission to Tunisia.

Jerandi stressed the need to strengthen the partnership between the two countries and to explore new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade field, so as to bring a new dynamic to the bilateral relations between the two countries.

He also called for reflection on action programmes in this direction in anticipation of the next bilateral deadlines, including in particular the 7th Tunisia-UK Bilateral Forum of Political, Economic and Cultural Dialogue

The Minister reaffirmed Tunisia’s commitment to develop cooperation ties with the British partner in various areas, both on the bilateral and multilateral level,

For her part, Louise De Sousa commended the "high level" achieved by the cooperation between Tunisia and the United Kingdom in various economic and trade areas and in education, culture and employment.

She also welcomed the "bilateral coordination" in the security field with regard to the fight against terrorism and extremism.

De Souza also commended the democratic achievements in Tunisia, noting the United Kingdom's readiness to further consolidate its cooperation with Tunisia in all areas.

On the other hand, the two parties discussed at the meeting, regional and international issues of common interest, including the situation in the Mediterranean region.

In this connection, they stressed the importance of this strategic space for Tunisia and the need to unify efforts to strengthen the foundations of peace and stability and encourage development based on solidarity so that the Mediterranean becomes an area of stability and progress.

Regarding the crisis in Libya, both sides emphasised the need to reach a permanent political solution so that this country and its neighbours can meet the many challenges related to development.
