Jhinaoui receives Head of Mission of Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa
The Electoral Institute participated in the observation of the early presidential election in Tunisia on September 15 through an Electoral Observation Mission (EOM-EISA) at the invitation of the Independent High Authority for the Election (ISIE).
According to a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused on the conduct of the election as well as several African issues of common interest.
On this occasion, the Minister underlined Tunisia's commitment to move forward on the path of democratic transition, which began in 2011, saying democracy is an "irreversible" choice.
For his part, the head of mission of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa praised the qualities of the late President Beji Caid Essebsi, adding that his death remains a great loss for all Africa.
The observation mission (MOE-EISA) is composed of 14 observers who have been integrated into the Carter Center observers and installed in Tunisia since July 18.
The mission is also composed of heads of institutions concerned with election management and representatives of civil society organisations and activists from Africa as well as independent experts from 15 countries.
